300 Million Gallons of Sewage - and Counting
On January 19, 2026, a 72 inch wide sewer pipe collapsed in Montgomery County, MD resulting in the release of more than 300 million gallons of sewage to date. Efforts have begun to contain the sewage, but the discharge is still active.
Potomac Riverkeeper Network has had boots on the ground for the last week monitoring and reporting on the crisis, as well as collecting water samples in and around the spill site for testing of E. Coli. Emergency response efforts are expensive, and the costs mount quickly.
Make a donation today to support PRKN's efforts as we navigate this massive public health and water quality threat.
